Munich Advanced Course in International Law (MACIL)

The Munich Advanced Course in International Law (MACIL) is an English-taught summer course that offers an opportunity for students and young professionals to dedicate about two weeks to intense and in-depth study of international law. Lectures are given by renowned experts of international law. The MACIL class is composed of 20-30 students, allowing for a close exchange of ideas between lecturers and students. Classes bring together participants with different academic backgrounds – advanced undergraduates, master and PhD students, and young professionals – and more than 20 nationalities each year. The 2024 course will take place from July 30 - August 9. The course will be dedicated to the question of

"Saving this Generation from the Scourge of War – What is the Role of International Law?"

The 2023 course took place from August 3 - August 11. The course was dedicated to the question of

"Sanctions in International Law: Instruments of Peace or Weapons of Coercion?"

The MACIL summer school is partner of the Erasmus Mundus Master in International Law of Global Security, Peace and Development (ILGSPD), a 24 months Master's program which aims to train the next-generation of lawyers and policy-makers with the ability to navigate the political context of international law and the comprehensive knowledge needed to engage with the issues of global security, peace and development.
